What a ferry flight actually costs
There is no rate card in this business, because no two movements are the same. What we can do is tell you exactly which factors move the number.
- Fixed price quotes
- Assumptions written down
What drives the price
Distance is only part of it. A short movement of a stored widebody needing a special flight permit and an unpressurised gear-down routing can cost more than a straightforward transatlantic sector on a serviceable narrowbody.
- Aircraft type, fuel burn and required crew complement
- Number of sectors and the handling cost at each tech stop
- Permit complexity and how many authorities are involved
- Whether the aircraft is airworthy or moving on a special flight permit
- Crew positioning distance and any waiting time at origin
- Insurance requirement, particularly for a ferry with restrictions
What a fixed quote covers
Our quotes bundle crew, positioning, planning, permits, handling and insurance into one number, with fuel usually passed through at cost so you are not paying a margin on it.
Everything the price assumes is written into the quote: the departure window, the aircraft condition we were told about, and the permits we expect to be granted. If any of those change, we show you the difference before we act on it.
Where clients waste money
The expensive mistakes are almost always sequencing mistakes. Positioning crew before the permit is confirmed, booking a slot at a conversion line before the export paperwork is clear, or leaving an aircraft in storage while a document is chased. Getting the order right is most of the saving.
